Welcome to Still Point Wellbeing

Welcome

Hi, I’m Abi Houghton – welcome to Still Point Wellbeing. Whether you are seeking support, exploring new ways of being, or simply needing a space to pause and breathe, you are warmly welcome here. I am so pleased that you clicked onto my webpage and I look forward to working with you.

I am a qualified Humanistic Counsellor, (Dip). in Portsmouth and a registered member of the BACP (British Association of Counsellors and Psychotherapists). I work in line with the BACP Ethical Framework and my practice is aligned with their standards.

At Still Point Wellbeing, I offer a calm, supportive space where you can talk things through and feel heard. I work in a humanistic way and draw on mindfulness, which means I focus on what's happening for you right now and support you to make sense of things in a way that feels right for you - with care and non-judgement.

Sessions are available either in-person, online or walking outdoors - you can choose the style that feels best for you. Some people prefer the privacy of in-room or online sessions, while others find walking side by side outdoors helps them open up more easily.

My approach is all about working with you, not telling you what to do. I work in a down-to-earth, compassionate and gentle way which creates space in which to notice your own strengths and we can explore what works best for you.

There is no set agenda, priorities may shift from one week to the next, we go with whatever feels most important at the time.

Life can throw all sorts of challenges at us - feeling anxious, low, facing big transitions, grief, or just wanting some clarity. Our sessions offer an opportunity to sit with things that can sometimes feel overwhelming, uncomfortable and scary. I will be with you and together we can navigate our way through.

Through compassionate listening and mindful reflection, I will support you in discovering your own insights, strengths, and ways forward—at your own pace and in your own way.

It’s completely normal to feel uncertain, you don't need to have it all sorted to take the first step. This is a space to be curious, where things will gently become clear.

What my clients say

Fees & location

I see clients face-to-face in Portsmouth, within easy reach of Fareham, Gosport, Waterlooville, Purbrook and throughout Hampshire.

Sessions are also available online for clients across the UK, and I offer walking therapy outdoors for those who prefer a side-by-side approach. Walking sessions take place whatever the weather - sometimes the changes in the seasons, sunshine or even a bit of rain can bring a whole new perspective to how things feel. Remember a brolly or a wellington boot!

All individual sessions - whether in-person, online or walking outdoors - last 50 minutes and are typically on a weekly basis. Sessions are priced at £45 per session. If cost is a concern, I may have limited sliding scale options available—please feel free to ask. To learn more or book a session, please get in touch.

Walking Therapy: Moving, Talking, and Finding Perspective
The sun is just peeking through the clouds, a light breeze ruffles your hair, and your footsteps crunch on the path ahead. You’re talking about something that’s been weighing on you — but somehow, out here, it doesn’t feel quite so heavy. That’s the idea behind walking therapy: a chance to explore your thoughts and feelings while moving through the world, side-by-side, at your own pace. Walking therapy is just that: a counselling session held outdoors, at a pace and distance that feels comfortable for you. We might stroll through a park, along quiet streets, or by the water — […]
Rest vs Exercise: Finding the Balance
We all know that exercise is good for us — it strengthens the body, lifts mood, and helps us cope with stress. But rest is just as important, and often overlooked. Finding the right balance between activity and recovery can make a big difference to both our physical and mental wellbeing. Why Rest Matters When we exercise, we’re actually creating small amounts of stress in the body. Muscles break down slightly so they can rebuild stronger. The heart works harder to improve endurance. This process is healthy — but only if we allow time for recovery. Without enough rest, the […]
Change
So here we are, winter time is upon us.  The clocks fell back on Saturday night and we had an extra hour in bed. This morning it was lighter as I got ready for the day and this felt great.  Last night though as I walked home from a friend's at 7pm it was totally […]
